Where should migrate a profesional from Puerto Rico nowadays?

Puerto Rican common migration paths.
Well it is clear that the economic situation in our nation and specially in our state “colony” Puerto Rico is not the best. If you look at the unemployment rate in the island it should be rising the 17% and the future it not so much encouraging. The government is wasting their time like always, enriching themselves and trying to get the people vote with their foolishness. If you look at the municipalities, you will see most of the mayors with paycheck surpassing $50,000 annually. Professionals in the island can barely obtain $30,000.
What can we do about our politics? Reproach them and let them know our perception. Which is not going to change the panorama intermediately. So let back to the main concern, where should migrate Puertoricans? Historically the two main destination has been NYC (50’s..) and Florida (90’s..). If you look with thoroughly at NYC you will note to points against moving there, the economy (city is in bankrupt) and criminality (~600 crimes this year). The metro is in very bad condition and the situation in general seems to be more or less in the same way for the coming years. In the other side with have Florida, very tempting because the subtropical climate and alike to Puerto Rico. The main problem with FL is the unemployment rate (~11%).
What to do then? Contrasting NYC with Florida, I would still bet for FL. But there is a better option, Washington DC. Why is a better option? Out there you will find a lot of opportunities especially in the Federal Government. Working for the Federal Government will allow you to have a security that you are not going to get on the private sector. And in these time is where the private sector is not in their normal operations is better to be out of risk. As a college student I had the opportunity to intern in DC with the Federal Government and from what I see there is a lot chances to succeed as a professional in DC.
So I hope to give you a new alternative to migrate and consequently grow professionally; something that you can’t do in PR.
Colony: Today, the colonizing European and North American powers hold few colonies in the traditional sense of the term, with exceptions in the case of the US (including Guam, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, The Northern Marianas and arguably Hawaii – see next section), France and the UK (including the Falkland Islands, The British Virgin Islands.
